The ICME String Syllabus offers a systematic course of study in violin, viola and cello with a flexible repertoire and particular focus on string technique and musicianship. In addition to a Technical Work section, each grade requires a Study and three pieces from the baroque/ classical, romantic and modern periods. Preparatory Levels 1 and 2 require two pieces only (own choice) plus Technical Work.
ICME currently offers a supplementary Violin Concerto Syllabus (Grade 1-12 plus Fellowship Award), and Viola and Cello Concerto Syllabi in three grade levels – Early, Intermediate and Advanced. These syllabi requires the performance of a movement or movements of a concerto with either orchestra or piano accompaniment. They are especially suited to the gifted student who responds well to a challenge.
The String Syllabus is an excellent preparation for specialist music school scholarships and provides sound foundations for students considering tertiary music study.
