ICME provides an extensive Syllabus for Woodwind that emphasises musicality and technical refinement. Each instrument features a highly structured and effective Technical Work Section, complemented by a Study and three pieces in baroque/classical, romantic and modern styles from the standard repertoire. Preparatory Levels 1 and 2 require two pieces only (own choice) plus Technical Work.
The Flute Syllabus is supplemented with Visionary Flute, designed for students who prefer the lighter musical styles, such as jazz, pop and movie themes. Two pieces are required, with an own choice option, plus a strong Technical Work section.
For the serious and highly motivated student, ICME offers the Flute Concerto Syllabus (Grades 1-12 plus Fellowship Award) and Concerto Syllabi for clarinet, oboe and saxophone in three grade levels – Early, Intermediate and Advanced. The concerto syllabi require a movement or movements of a concerto with either orchestral or piano accompaniment.
The Woodwind Syllabus is an excellent preparation for specialist music school scholarships and provides a solid foundation for students considering tertiary music study.
